Just an idea that cropped into my head too, most ebook stores send newsletters to subscribers listing new books and specials etc (EZRead hasn't as yet but it is early days). Thought that I had (perhaps of some value for discussion) is allow subscribers to select tick boxes of genres they are interested in and receive newsletters about new ebooks and specials in those genres selected.
I'm a big sci-fi fan and currently I receive a few newsletters from ebook sites each week and it lists random books like 5 romance novels, 10 horror, 20 action/thriller etc etc that are new and are on sale, and 99% of those books are of absolute no interest to me (and slowly I am starting to ignore these emails). I'm not sure on other peoples opinions but I sure would love to be able to tick a box to say "only send me info on new sci-fi/fantasy ebooks" or the genres most interested in.
As I said, it is just an idea. Might be of some value, might not be.

Dear Solicitous:
To be sure, we will NOT sell our members info to anyone else. That is in our new Privacy Policy. However, we will from time to time send info about special deals or new features or new authors on our site to our members. You do not need to check a box. Is this good? Well, I think that what we send will be pretty important news and will not fill anyone's email box with numerous emails from EZRead. I think if we keep it seldom and make it relevant all will be pleased. Every day my own email is beseiged with emails from hotels, bariatric sites, and stupid offers to buy Viagara. I know we intend to be judicious and only send short one page updates on several things at once. More like a newsletter.
I am a big fan of Sci-Fi and Fantasy also. These two genres are what we pursue hard. Hopefully you have tried Steven Lakes free sci-fi eBook. Are you aware that this first free book is the start of a 7-novel saga? Books 2&3 are now up on our site too... plus the first book of a new 12-novel saga. Prices are dirt cheap and his writing is excellent. We hope to have Steven signing autographs at our CES booth this year.
The only books presently limited to geographic boundaries are the Google FREE eBooks. The others are open to the entire world. The problem is we need to get PayPal up on our site to allow international buying. That is being done and I ask for it almost daily!
