Yes, I had drmed books (purchased with 2.3) stored on my computer. After updating to 2.5.2, I transferred them back to the device and no problems reading them.

I don't think so. If I'm understanding you correctly, this would be the scenario that the vast majority of users (who never dedrm) would be facing after a manual or automatic update. Plus I think my answer to question #1 proves this.
