kobo and b&n both use adept, but neither allows you to sideload books yet. the feature has been requested of kobo when they solicited for improvement ideas for their app on here a few weeks ago. they haven't told us if it would be a coming feature though.
people have reported success using txtr, the iphone app, on the ipad. it doesn't run in native resolution though.
there was an attempt at making a FAQ, unfortunately the thread got derailed by the ipad/apple critics.
