On other sites I have read the discussions of the DRM and stipping them. The majority of them have talked of their right to make as many copies as they want, and do with them as they want. It is something that I have seen as wrong, a form of stealing.

But what you are describing is differnt; it is making a copy, a type of backup, for something that belongs to you.

I will be the first to admit that I have very little knowledge of how much of this technology works. I am finally understanding more as I read the posts (here on this site), lean more about the workings of formats, software and such. I still have a Long way to go, but at least I think I now understand some aspects better; such as DRM--is not so much as used (like a copier would be to make copies) but more of a lock to keep something inside a safe. Pease correct me if I am wrong.

That perception of DRM, locked and free, puts the situation in a totally different light than from what I have seen it, where it has been mainly discussed as a way to make copies to sell or give to others. That decision is an individual's choice. At this point in time, I still see that as wrong, morally, ethically and legally.
However, in the stripping of the locked DRM; I have a better understanding of why it is being done, and understand that this is, in may ways, something stupid that is for the benefit of those in power, not for a justifable or legimate reason.

There is still much I need to learn, what is what, how it works, its uses and its affects on other items. It will take me a while, but I do know that I will do my best to be more open minded to something that I don't know, try to see that there could be justifiable reasons for behaviors that do not make sense to me, or seem wrong on the outside but is right on the inside.

*Sigh* sometimes ignorance is bliss; I am still trying to figure out if I want to buy books that are DRM locked because they are the titles I want, or are offered as "free" or focus on finding books that are DRM free. I haven't the faintest idea of how to strip a DRM book.

And how can you tell if a book is free or locked?

I can understand how you feel about the concussion; my arm is killing me by evenig time. It sucks to have an injury that affects your ability to funciton at full capacity.
I hope you get better soon.
