As is rightly said in the article, they entirely drown out the singing which is so much a part of the atmosphere of the game. Dreadful things!
Drowning the singing is not the only casualty. Vuvuzelas also drown out most whistles from the referee and also most of the ball kick sounds essential to the line referees' offside calls.
