It's about time I mentioned my lovely
illustated version of Kim by Rudyard Kipling.
The text is better than any other version out there. The illustrations are by Kipling's father — who used to be curator at the Lahore museum that features in the first chapter, so they are excellent illustrations of India contemporary to the story.
This book is about the adventures of Kim, an orphan in India in the 1880s, as he travels with a Lama from Tibet, in search of a sacred river for the Lama, and a red bull on a green field for Kim.
You can read it for free from the
Mobileread library.
The Mobileread library version contains text, illustrations, and footnotes from the original editions.
Or you can buy it for just $0.99 (+VAT if applicable) from the
Kindle store. The Kindle store contains the same great text, illustrations and footnotes, but is enhanced by many more (doubly-hyperlinked) footnotes explaining unusual or foreign words in the text.
