i can type decently on the ipads soft keyboard, am doing so right now, especially in landscape mode. but as Harry suggests, for long typing sessions a BT keyboard is great. I picked up apple's for about $60. it is very small, very lightweight, and extremely portable. I use it when I am going t be sending out a few emails to folk mostly. what I found ver nice about using it is it allows me to put the screen at any distance and angle from my eyes and the keyboard at any comfortable position under my fingers. they keyboard propped up on my lap and the iPad propped up on a pillow next to me for example. can't do that, easily, with a laptop.
