Do you have a firewall in software? Do you have anything with the name Norton? Do you use Peer Guradian? If you answer yes to any of these, then turn them 100% off and reboot and try again. Something is blocking you from getting there. Do you have another computer you can try? If so, load your web browser and go to
http://ebooks.connect.com and see if you connect.
