I didn't download the Sony Reader Library software yet, am waiting till later.

If it is downloaded on just my computer, then how do I bring up on my reader the collections of books? I have only windowshopped for books so far, not bought or downloaded any.

I guess I also need to see if I have the ADE (correct name?) for the format of the books.

I really hate not understanding what to do.

I learned on a Manual Royal in Jr. High Peaked out at 12WPM. Been using computers since the late 70's since the allowe corection of typing errors.

ADE (Adobe Digital Editions) is only needed if you buy e-books (PDF and EPUB) infested with Adobe DRM.

If you use Calibre to manage your Reader, you probably don't want to install the Sony software.

Did You INSTALL Calibre after you downloaded it?

There should be a Calibre Icon on your Desktop (or Start menu) if it is installed.
Install Calibre if it was not done (double click the Calibre installer file you downloaded).

Once installed, you are ready to start. Double-click the icon. (it can take a minute or so to start.

Once Calibre starts (you need to specify where to put yor Calibre library. Unless you have a computer guru in the family, that set up your system like an advanced user, accept the suggested location.

If you have books already on your Sony, and Calibre is running.
Within a Minute of connecting your Reader, Calibre should "discover" it (additional icons will appear next to the "Library" Icon and start building a list (The spinner in th corner will, spin).
When it stops, click the other icons to see what was found. This proves that Calibre can communicate with your reader.

Note NO books Move or are copied, this is only a list.

Step to will be to copy books from your reader to you Calibre Library (if they are not already available elsewhere on your computer.

A Sony user-person will have to lead you through the specific steps for a Sony.
