So, I've looked at two other devices closely. PRS-900 is really 7", so it's straight out. And as for Kindle DX - even if I convince myself that the size is OK, it still looks like reading PDFs (and that's the format I'm equipped with) is a pain (no TOC? no links?).

My inner child is sad, looks like there'll be no shiny till end of that year...
