Update:
The opening post on this thread is now null and void. I did a fresh install of Ubuntu's latest release with the latest Open Office Writer word processor, and I am getting consistent, high quality pdfs in any font I want. It is OO ver. 3.2. I cannot vouch for how well the Windoze version will work, but it's probably OK.
eBooks that look like BOOKS, and not a Commodore 64 screen!
