Can't say anything about the content server, but assuming that the device presents its memory as a removable disc, with Calibre 0.7 you can mount your Freda folder as a Calibre 'folder device'. You can then use Calibre to manage the device's library in the same way you would a dedicated e-reader.

The OPF question is interesting. Calibre will insert all the metadata it knows about into the book's embedded OPF file, including tags, series, etc. Freda would have a lot to play with.
