I'm a new Calibre user.

I find that I cannot upload books to Calibre from the two libraries I have been using: Kindle and the Sony library. The Kindle library does not even show within Calbre and I cannot bring it up. The Sony library icon shows within Calibre, but is muted and won't open.

I'm using a MacBook Pro.

How do I solve this?
