I've owned a string of Thinkpads and a couple of Lenovo netbooks. They suck to read books on, IMO. I like 'em fine for other uses.
It would be great if iPad were lighter for carrying around, but I never hold it to read. I didn't hold my Kindle, either. I use a rice-filled cushion to prop most often. I also use this dirt-cheap easel, which works even on cushions when I'm sprawled on my easy chair:

You can get 'em in lots of places, online and in crafts shops and such. I don't waste money on dedicated easels and such, because I'll switch devices through the years. These easels work fine with Kindle or iPad. If I had a remote control to turn pages, I wouldn't have to touch my iPad or Kindle at all.
