Astra did you mean the same thing? that you can read email, web etc fine on an LCD monitor but couldnt 'read a story'?

Yes, I can obviously read on a monitor or I couldn't post on this forum etc.!
When I say read, I mean really sit down and read something--be it a book, long research article etc.
The form factor of PCs and laptops just sucks for that. The screens don't bother my eyes though, I can read on my girlfriend's laptop with no problem. Maybe it would be more of an issue if I was reading for hours and hours on end all the time like many here. But I rarely read for more than 30-60 minutes in any one stretch.

Exactly. As I said just above, the form factor of laptops sucks for reading. A tablet--if it's like the iPad in terms of size, weight, not putting out heat etc.--has a very good form factor for reading. I can curl up with a tablet and read it like I would a hardcover book, magazine etc.--can't do that with a laptop. At least I can't anyway.
