Yeah, just a way to keep it under wraps and avoid people reading it, not liking the script and deciding not to go see it.

I do think it's a misnomer that all movies butcher the books though--but I will admit as I say that as a huge movie buff and a very casual reader.

But there are plenty of movies that I've enjoyed just as much as the book (Fight Club, High Fidelity come to mind there) and some that I think the movie was a big improvement over a mediocre book (The Godfather comes to mind).
