That could still work over wifi though, provided people are mainly using their Kindle around WiFi.
I read my Kindle at home, and occasionally read some on the Kindle PC app in my office or on my girlfriend's laptop at her place (or her iPad) so I'd get by fine with WiFi whispersync.
But again, I'd be shocked if there wasn't a 3G version available. If there's a wifi only version it will just be a cheaper option for people who don't use their Kindle on the go and don't need the 3G.
