I agree with Scott Nicholson about keeping track of what's going on. In the past I went with a traditional publisher (major NYC firm) and I can never tell what is actually going on in those royalty statements - how do I know those figures are accurate (sales, returns, discounts, etc.)? It feels good to hear directly from readers, to be able to control ad copy, cover, the whole shebang - and to know exactly what sales are every day. imo we're at the very beginning of an exciting and lucrative time for indie authors/publishers!
