yeah.. but getting a new phone some times requires a new contract.. it's the details in the contract that are going to matter. we have no details about the new iphone, if purchasing one is going to require a valid AT&T contract or not. i've only read, and it was only based on rumors, not facts, that the new iphones will be subsidized by at&t and require 2 year contracts. you will not be able to purchase them outright as you could with the 3gs. it would be at&t's opportunity to force me to go to the new data plan to get the new phone, or keep my existing phone and existing plan.
maybe they are anticipating that people with the new phone will be consuming even more data. certainly video chat will gobble that up quicker.
