On the other hand, the more I think about it, the more I like it. It forces people who might be introverts (a lot of voracious readers are) to actually leave home, go to BN and interact with an employee. It might get you talking and you get a recommendation. You start reading it over the free wifi and, blammo, they get a sale.

Actually that's exactly why I like this. I know it's a little gimmicky but for readers and lover's of books it does give you a reason to keep going back to the bookstore. Something I hope to install into my children as well.
Maybe it's the booklover in me but a trip to the bookstore is something I hope will never go out of fashion.
