These are defective screens and are found in other ereaders as well. I can read on my Sony 505 in the sun all day long without any fading. I find that over 99.9% of the time the sun is no where around when I'm reading.

If you find this problem on your device and it bothers you then you should call tech support and have it replaced. More stories in this thread.
