L-o-n-g before Blazing Saddles! The reference is pretty obscure. It's from an old recording, "The Crepitation Contest" (I remember the title of the old 78 rpm record I heard as a young teenager as being "The Farting Contest") that was originally produced in the 40s. It was about a pseudo-sporting event complete with ring announcer, "Farting Post", rules, audience reactions, and various humorous names for the different maneuvers and "plays". Some info on it can be found at http://melvillean.livejournal.com/262314.html
