As a veteran who served a tour and a half in Vietnam, I love the United States of America. I have flag symbols at work, and fly the Stars and Stripes on all the patriotic holidays. And whenever I'm somewhere the Pledge of Allegiance is sworn, my voice is the loudest in the room.
...except when it comes to that 2-word bastard phrase, added in the 50s, that has artificially divided Americans ever since it was first incorporated. Then my voice goes noticeably silent until it passes.
There's nothing wrong with the way that old socialist, Rev. Francis Bellamy, wrote the Pledge. It hardly needed the "improvement" of the U.S. Congress in 1954.
