I am a big naval history buff (particularly age of sail) and have read pretty much all the fiction written in the genre, but I must admit Patrick O'brian's novels were a huge struggle.

Master and commander, which is a mix up of several Jack Aubrey novels, is a great movie and one my wife and I re-watch often.
