You can read library books on your k......but it involves using a library that carries mobipocket ebooks, running a script on your computer after downloading the book, then transferrring to your kindle. As neilmarr said, most libraries are using epub more and more......check your local library for their selection.

The book still 'closes' after the loan period, it doesn't allow you to keep it forever.

We used to be able to tell you how to do this, but Amazon made us take the directions down. A search for 'kindlefix' perhaps might help....
