Mother is the main part of the problem in my family, though my siblings are complicit in behaving like whiny, protesting "I hate you!" children to her matriarchal, overprotecting, eternally-disappointed, choke-you-with-her-apron-strings mothering.
It isn't gender in our family; it's complicity in the environment of guilt and passive aggressiveness, all revolving around a tragedy held close as the tie that binds.
