I'm in Australia too and bought a Pocketbook 360 in March. I LOVE it. It's pretty, has a hard cover and is really lovely to read on. It's a little bit more than you're willing to pay at $239 USD, but you said you had someone in the States who would purchase for you, you'd save on postage costs.

I researched for months before I finally decided on the PB360 and am really happy with my purchase.

I saw the Kobo release and I was so happy to see a cheaper reader in Australia!

The PB360 seems to have one of the fastest page turning speeds of all the readers I researched, and initially the black flash was a little annoying, but you get used to it really quickly. It's still quicker than turning a normal page.

I just noticed your last post and you said most people don't even notice the flash - I wouldn't go that far, but it's not annoying when you get used to it.
