Creating even the image of a split in their user base is not a smart move by Amazon. People aren't going to be burning their Kindles in solidarity or anything , but sitting here with my hacks off being creeped out by Emily Dickinson for an entire month while I wait to be anointed is just discouraging.
Up until this point Amazon has always seemed to be at least trying to do the right thing by me, but this just feels poorly thought-out. You don't make a grand announcement of the addition of the single most hotly requested feature, then inexplicably ensure that it'll stay out of the hands of 80% of your customers until most of the enthusiasm evaporates and is replaced by frustration, or simple "whatever."
...unless you're feeling insecure about the sales of the iPad and feel the need to grandstand a bit prematurely?
