Actually it appears to be a moderately powerful rare-earth type magnet, and while I agree that it's not *likely* to cause a problem..... how much is your data worth?
With today's very thin laptops the drive platters are not very many millimeters away from the case bottom and there's quite a noticeable field from a rare-earth magnet even 1/2" away.
I'm living with it at the moment (carrying day-to-day to work) by storing it nearest the top (screen-side) of my laptop and on the left side of that (which is away from my HDD). With that separation, I'm not concerned - but I have several laptops and many laptop bags so that degree of separation isn't feasible in all situations.
