Just wanted to thank everyone for their input. After a lot more thinking, a lot more reading, and a gentle nudge, I ended up going with the nook. The deciding factors were that I didn't like the entire-screen touch screen on the PRS600 and I liked the fact that B&N seems to be trying to build up a community around the reader, with in and out of store efforts.
I'll be sure to let folks know how things went. Again, thank you all, I read and re-read everything you had to say!
