"Best" and "popular" very rarely happen to converge on a single product, at least as far as the end-user is concerned.

The iPad is good for some things, and not good for some things. It might be the best ebook reader for some buyers. Of course, other buyers swear by their Kindles, or Sony Readers, or PocketBooks, or jetBooks, or Cybooks, or their phones, or...or...or...

It's just a device. If it works for you, it's good. If it doesn't work for you, it's not good. Don't let popularity make you think it's the "best" anything.
