Good decision.
At the invincible age of 23, I cut two fingertips off my left hand on a jointer. I've been a security coach everywhere I worked after that. I've instituted a motto that's been upheld with success everywhere. I call it the six inch law:
"Don't get any limb closer than six inches from a power tool's business end; covered or not."
