I really agree with you here. If the Kindle is out of the package, they have no way of knowing that it wasn't brought over from UK in the first place. Even when my husband and I go back and forth from the US to Japan, the only problem we've had is from beef jerky we tried to bring here to Japan. It's animal product and they had to destroy it. But if we hadn't said it was there then nobody would have known.

OP, maybe you can get the Kindle in the US then mail it back. Then you won't have to take it on the plane at all.
