AZW is just an extension, not a format. AZW files may have two types of formats Topaz and MOBI, also each format uses a different DRM.
I believe you only ever submit MOBI formats to Amazon. The Topaz is an internal solution they use for their scanned books.
In your situation if you turn in a MOBI book Amazon will have no problems with it
