Ok, after I've slept on it, fitfully I may add, I have a new theory. Which means, my old theory, but with one extra element that supports it. Now I only have to go through the story once more, to see if I can find any evidence to this extra element, or if I'm just wishfully hallucinating...
I'm really having love/hate feelings for the Lobster at the moment....
