The #1 Ladies Detective Agency books by Alexander McCall Smith always make me feel good. The main character is a strong woman and they are both heartwarming and funny. The mysteries are very mild, the stories are more about Mme. Precious Ramotswe and her friends and family. Also, for laugh out loud funny try the Southern Sisters mystery series by Anne George. The Stephanie Plum books mentioned above are also great and should lift her spirits. In another vein she could try Persuasion by Jane Austen. It's the classic story of true love finally working out over all obstacles. Other great Austen titles are Emma and Pride and Prejudice. Emma in particular is very humorous.
