Quite right. Another example would be iPod, which has become synonymous with MP3 players. Many times, you'll see a brochure for a car stereo or something, and they happily point to how they have an "iPod input", when all they really mean is that it has an Auxiliary input which any player than uses the standard 35mm cable (which is most of them) can connect to. Another example would be Xerox.

By the way, I agree with what was said about Apple's marketing. I'm not a 'fanboy' by any means, but I have to give Steve Jobs & Co. credit for the image and brand recognition that they have created. Tech products, and specially IT products, have always been viewed as a 'geeky' thing. Apple have long since transcended that stereotype, to the point that now, far from being viewed as geeky, owning anything by Apple -- whether iPod, iPad, iPhone, MacBook or whatever -- assures your status of being 'cool' and 'in'.

Unbelievable. Congrats, Apple; your somewhat overrated products changed the entire tech industry in the last decade.
