I'll have to see if they ever send me a newsletter (don't recall getting one) and look at their HTML to see what they do. Of course, you have to wonder why they don't update their own web site to accomplish the same trick.

I suspect something similar. It was a special code to get a free book (one not normally free and it was for a specific book, not just any one in general). The process was tedious and could have easily been done in a single step, if their programmers were instructed to make it so (but, then again, it's obvious that Sony cares little for the customer experience, not just in their software, but in the way their readers work).
