A little luck and maybe a step closer

Hi guys, I'm new here and have been having this same problem. The books I've bought have been off the Kobo site, and some work some don't.

As I have been playing around, I finally opened ADE in one window and my 3Gen in another on the computer, to compare file types.

This is what I found

ADE
Book title 1.epub
Book title 2.epub
etc.

On the 3 Gen
Book title 1.epub
Book title 1.epub.bin
Book title 1.epub.dat
Book title 1.epub.thn
Book title 2.epub
Book title 2.epub.bin
Book title 2.epub.dat
Book title 2.epub.thn

4 files instead of 1 per book
the .bin and .dat were 1KB a piece and the .thn file was 7 KB

The epub file gets copied over, then the other files should be created by the reader. The.bin file was creating itself, on my books that didn't work, when I tried disconnecting. I did notice that one time the .dat file was missing from a working book and nothing changed, so I am guessing that the .thn file is the issue.

The little research I have done, and I appoligize if I am telling anybody anything they already know, the .thn extension is a type of thumbnail.

My last step was to take a book that was working, and change the .thn file to a non working books name. For example "Pirate Latitudes" was working and I changed it to "Born to Run". I then disconnected my 3Gen. Guess what. It booted properly and it went to the menu. The thumb nail for the book still was for "Pirate Latitudes" but the title next to it was correct. I then tried to select "Born to Run" and from there it rebooted. But it didn't do it automatically and I believe you could turn it off yourself I forgot to try that.

Long story short the problem is still there, but I think if we figure out how to create the .thn file, we have solved our problem.

Sorry for the long post, I'll never admit to being the most computer savy person on the planet. I'm going to keep working on it, but perhaps one of you has more expertise than myself.
