In what way is the Ipad not a good commuting device. I comute 60 - 90 minutes each way to work (catching two trains) and my Ipad has becoem a brilliant traveling conpanion. I have a wireless 3G modem which provides me with good coverage wherever I am. So I either surf the web, read my newspaper online pr browse forums, otherwise I read novels or school texts. Admittedly, I can generally get a seat on the train services that I catch so that makes it easier to use the Ipad.
