I need the opposite. I am willing to spend money upfront to purchase quality hardware, but I am not spending very much on apps or content.
As far as the printer analogy, that is exactly what should be avoided. The printer should cost a bit more upfront but the cartridges should be cheap. The whole printer ink thing is a huge scam and we should avoid this in the future.
