I've also heard that most hardcore readers prefer E-ink screen devices to iPad, and PLEASE do believe me that most iPad owners are techie people and gadget freaks who don't do much long-time period reading and usually don't read over 10 books a year, and if they do, they will soon realize that, for book reading, E-ink beats iPad hands down!

Better to speak just for yourself. I've never gotten a headache from reading on an LCD screen, and don't have a lot of eye strain problems.
E-ink is fine, I like my Kindle. But I have issues with reading on it at times as my place is pretty dimly lit and I like it that way--so LCD screens are often easier to read vs. fiddling with a clip on light with my Kindle etc.
Also, I spend a lot more time reading A4 PDFs of research articles than reading novels, and e-ink just sucks for research reading as it's just so damn slow to flip through documents looking for a table, quickly switch between documents etc.
The iPad doesn't quite get it right for an academic research tablet either--but not because of the screen (other than being a inch or so too small for my ideal needs). I'll definitely get an LCD tablet at some point, and probably ditch my Kindle at that point.
