Well, the computer end is USB, and that's all that's needed for this scenario. And for apps that support it, you can just open itunes and drop the files into the apps you want. Also, you can jailbreak and drag and drop files pretty easily too if you want. I used to add files to a jailbroken iPod Touch via usb.
