Just tried a WD 320G Passport drive I have here. It has 4 white led's on front that cycle during activity. They all came on and I did not hear the drive start up spinning, did not mount. I'm guessing it is draining too much power.

When you pug in the iPhone (via USB cable) and launch the Photos application you see the images and video to import just like any other camera. You can't transfer over anything else. The iPhone is still usable while it's hooked up.
