I agree that the interface has the additional capability of interacting with devices (that are presumably enabled for the surface OS as well), but how hard would that be to program? From what I saw in that mockup video, you take the iPhone/iPad OS, add that bit of additional functionality to it, and you've basically got what you saw in the video.
