The JBL is not for those who want bells and whistles. If it cost in the low 200's like its competition, it would not seem as attractive. Clearly, the primary appeal is that Newegg and others have it on sale for $99.
The AA batteries and TFT screen make it a great bargain in my view, but if it were $199 I'd be tempted by other choices. For example, everyone says that the PocketBook 360 at $230 is a great device. If the 360 were only $30 more than the JBL, I'd consider buying it instead.
