Lol, I totally remember those things. They were pretty good at the time (actually all we had besides Apple IIe's), they're what I cut my teeth on when I first started to learn programming. I remember it took several hundred lines of code just to draw a skull and make its eyes flash!
I think the first PC I actually owned was a Tandy 1000RL, didn't have a HDD but I think I was lucky enough to have a 1200 baud modem! I later sold it to a friend before I went overseas the first time and he ended up buying a 40MB HDD for it that cost him a whopping $450.

(to think, now you can score a 500GB HDD for $99
