I run Symantec Corporate here. It's low resource and has never caused a real problem. A few updates ago it
did decide a few ancient DOS programs were infected and quarantined them, but that was the first time it had ever caused a problem. I had the distribution archives for the programs, so fixing the problem was a matter of putting thi directory where they live in the Do Not Scan list and installing fresh copies.
I wouldn't touch Norton A/V with a stick. Too many cases of "Does not play well with others", and harder to remove once you've decided it's a problem rather than a cure than a fair bit of what it's supposed to protect against.

am bemused about how two A/V products from the same vendor should be so different in quality.
