The Kobo will be available Thursday for $170 including local taxes. It's not as full featured as the Kindle 2; but its cheaper, too.
Or, just buy the iRex DR800SG at Best Buy in the US and pick it up there or drop ship it to a service that does that for it and have it mailed to you in Canada. I've never used them but there are firms like myus.com that handle everything. When you've just GOTTA have that special thing.
To each his own -- and good luck to you in your quest! -- but sometimes it seems people make life way more complicated than it has to be.

The Kindle is not for me.
The Kobo...other than the fat that is is a ebook reader is has none of the features I want.
For Best Buy, you need an US billing to order.
Thanks for the link, I never thought about buying though a 3rd party.
Make things more complicated? That's me. It's taken me a long time to save up enough to buy whatever ereader I wanted, and I don't plan on buying 2 or 3 in my life, so I'm picky.
Thanks for your help.
