Yes, it lights the whole screen. I found it worked best if I put opaque tape over the back side of the light, because the casing where the bulb is, is clear on both front and back. Without the tape you actually got shadows on the bottom half of the screen.

Attached is an image taken in a dark room. The glare looks horrible but actually is negligible in real life.
